Food for Thought Winners Announced
River of Words and
SAGE (Agricultural Roots Education) announced the winners of the
first annual Food for Thought Poetry & Art Contest at a daylong
outdoor festival at the Oakland Museum on September 25th. The SAGE-sponsored
Agricultural Roots Festival highlighted the rich harvest of California
produce and the diversity of the state's farmers. The festival featured
ethnic music and dance, a variety of foods from local restaurants,
crafts and education booths, a farmers market, and the Food for Thought
Ceremony.
This is the first year that SAGE and River of Words have conducted
the contest for kindergarten through 12th grade California students.
Bay Area Grand Prize winner Nicole Sue (age 10, Bentley School, Oakland)
and honorable mention winner Tatiana Rosenblatt (age 10, Berkeley)
received their ribbons and prizes in front of an appreciative audience
in the museum courtyard. The Food for Thought Contest will continue
in 2004. We should have the details posted on this website in a month
or two. Check back.
