This lovely pastel just arrived at the River of Words office. It seems the “fox fancy” that began last year; we received many entries to the 2005 contest depicting foxes. Two were named as finalists.

The red fox is the most widely distributed wild carnivore in the world, yet most of us have probably never seen one outside a zoo. Red foxes live in almost all of the contiguous United States, all of Europe and Britain, and almost all of Asia, including Japan. There are also several populations in North Africa. Red foxes were introduced into Australia in the nineteenth century.
