Chuckwalla
(Lizard of the Canyon)

orange
as the tropical
sun,
black
rings as black
as the bone
rings of
death
white
as the
radiant whispers of
the moon.
old
as the earth,
young
as the
stars,
as sleek
as the
river where
I met
them.
