River II

Last night I ran like a river would
Rush over rocky paths and silent watchers in the dark.
I cannot say I got too far
But my heart it feels justified by the rush
That like the echo of the river rings in my ears.
My mind had stopped running long before my legs did.
Like the river I let blindness lead my way
Like the hunched earth comforting the river
Along its path to endless vast spaces.
I am the whispering tree as you pass
I am the whistling wind at your window
I am free…
