Baptized

At St. Patrick’s church
Threading through a shrill silence
Ambulating like a sloth
Eyes
Blue, green, brown, black
Following me like smoke from a fire
Passing many symbols of death and sacrifice
I go to the front
By the altar
The priest is standing there
Water is splashed on my head
I am 9 years old
I am getting baptized.
