Nature

Tell me how nature does it.
Tell me what nature is like
this howling and yet healing.
Open my door of knowledge and
tell me the reason the brown
coyote howls at the moon, why
grass is green.
Give me knowledge of the
massive saguaro and prickly hedgehog.
I want to know why the day, so bright,
and night, so dark, are so different.
Fill me up with nature’s way.
Tell me why these things are unknown:
how many leaves on a tree
or how many rocks in a stream – how
did they get there – the mountain
with its blanket of fog thicker
than mud, colder than ice.
