dogsweetdog

her brown
muzzle jerks up
from its limp resting spot
and lazily snaps at a fly
whirring by.
dozing
her paws twitch and her nose
trembles, whiskers quiver;
a low rumbling growl
escapes from her throat.
sweet dreams.
basking
in a puddle
of sunlight, her almond eyes,
half open, guard her milky
white bone.
prancing
on the lush lawn,
her favorite green
ball half concealed by her generous
pink lips.
gnawing
a rawhide dog
treat to pieces, fragments
of the tough delicacy litter
the oatmeal rug.
