Fais Do-Do

The moon
A glowing orb
Image of what was
And what will be,
Sits on its shelf in the universe.
The stars,
Like ashes aflame,
Tango to an unheard music
In the dome overhead.
The bayou swirls and sings
A sluggish, mournful tune,
An ode to Evangeline
And the days of old.
Tree nymphs emerge
From the cypress and swamp maple,
To dance with cattails
And wooly rose-mallow
